War Games (2012) was a professional wrestling event produced by PRIDE All-Female Wrestling Championship. It took place on May 20, 2012 at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. It was PRIDE's second pay-per-view since the re-opening under the new name, the second in the War Games chronology, (the first being in the company's first run, as All-Female Pride Wrestling) and the second of four events in the 2012 PRIDE AFCW PPV schedule. Out of character-wise, it was the fourth event to be broadcast through the PRIDE Live Coverage System (the first three being the two AFPW pay-per-views, Coronation 2011 and War Games 2011, and PRIDE's Coronation 2012).

Background
Edit
War Games featured professional wrestling matches involving pre-existing scripted feuds, plots, and storylines played out during the regular episodes of Sunday Night PRIDE Wrestling - the flagship bi-weekly television program of PRIDE.
One of the feuds to make it to this show revolves between Bobbi Jackson, the newly crowned PRIDE Champion, and Susan Rigger. Susan, who claims to be in "possession" of Bobbi, demanded that Bobbi handed the PRIDE Championship to her, which was denied by PRIDE's owner Christian Gardner. Co-General Manager then decided that Bobbi and Susan would fight for the championship in a Dog Collar Match. In addition to that, Bobbi would be free from Susan in case she won; should Susan win, PRIDE would legitimate Susan's "ownership" over Bobbi, and hand the PRIDE Championship to her cleanly.
Susan is also involved in the Tag Team Championship scene, as she will once again do double duty. After the match between Ignis and Mikaela Demidov in Coronation, the new Head of Talent Relations, Emma, declared that the Golden Girls (Mika's stable) and Bounce and Pounce (Ignis' team) would compete in a tag team match to decide the next #1 contenders for the championships. Co-General Manager Nicole Rossi modified the match, adding Hashtag Red Bull (Freya Kane and Mia Heafy) and the losing them not directly involved in the forthcoming Tag Team Championship Match between SXP (Susan and Dominique Frost), Sociedad de las Máscaras (Rosa de Oro and Araña Roja) and Bobbi's Angels (Carmen de Vega & Giselle Anderson). With Dominique getting the pinfall over Araña Roja, the Angels advanced to the contendership match. The match was won by #RedBull after Freya hit the Modern Day Future on Mika Demidov, granting her team a championship shot.

Aftermath
Edit
Following the events of War Games, Sexified Perfection soldiered on. Maia Lopez was kicked out of the stable and attacked by the group, after failing to regain the PRIDE International Championship from Candace Okimura, who has bested her twice before at PRIDE 5 in a non-title triple threat match, also involving Wendy House, to become the number one contender to Lopez's title, and then again the following show at PRIDE 6 in losing the title.
With Rigger and Frost successful title defense of the Tag Team Championship, and Rigger's defeat of Bobbi Jackson, after Carmen deVega turned on Jackson, to win the PRIDE Championship, she became the first and only woman in PRIDE Wrestling to become double champion and hold a singles and tag team title at the same time. Rigger and Frost would also be involved in a feud over the PRIDE Tag Team Championship with Bobbi Jackson and Giselle Anderson. Jackson and Anderson would team frequently, with their debut win coming at PRIDE 7 on the July 3, 2012 edition of Sunday Night PRIDE Wrestling, but would fall to Susan Rigger and Jessica Jackson the following show at PRIDE 8. At PRIDE 9, Anderson would get a pinfall on Frost in a triple threat match, also involving Rainbow, that saw their respective team member in their corner, Bobbi Jackson for Bobbi's Angels, Susan Rigger for SXP, and Gabrielle Crimson for Vivid Colors. Later on in the main event, Carmen deVega defeated Susan Rigger in a triple threat match, also involving former champion Bobbi Jackson, for the PRIDE Championship, winning her, Jackson's and Anderson's freedom from Rigger's control. After the events of PRIDE 9, Carmen deVega decided to rename the group from Bobbi's Angels to Carmen's Angels. Nonetheless, Jackson and Anderson would vie for a Tag Team Championship match by defeating Vivid Colors at PRIDE 10 on the July 22, 2012 edition of Sunday Night PRIDE Wrestling. At Apotheosis on August 5, 2012, Jackson and Anderson failed in their bid to defeat Rigger and Frost for the PRIDE Tag Team Championship.
Jessica Jackson would remain Extreme Champion and mostly teamed with her fellow Sexified Perfection stablemates before getting her next title defense since defeating Jasmine back at PRIDE 6 on the May 6, 2012 edition of Sunday Night PRIDE Wrestling, which marked the first time the Extreme Championship was defended on Sunday Night PRIDE Wrestling, and the second time any PRIDE championship was defended on television (Maia Lopez defended the International Championship also at PRIDE 6, which she lost to Candace Okimura in her first defense). At PRIDE 9 on the July 8, 2012 edition of Sunday Night PRIDE Wrestling, Jackson (in her second defense) defeated Emma Danielson, just after becoming the first Extreme Champion to surpass the 100-day mark four days prior, on July 4, 2012, and would set up a feud between them over the Extreme Championship. This episode would mark the second time the Extreme Championship was defended on Sunday Night PRIDE Wrestling and the fourth time any PRIDE Championship was defended on television (In the main event of PRIDE 9, Susan Rigger defended the PRIDE Championship, which she lost to Carmen deVega in a triple threat match, also involving former champion, Bobbi Jackson, in her first title defense). Jackson would yet again defeat Danielson at Apotheosis, which was also a No Disqualification match as in their first battle at PRIDE 9.
Now with two blown opportunities at the International Championship, Mercedes Vargas was more determined than ever in her pursuit. Vargas continued her undefeated streak, now entering her third month, winning on the next four shows, defeating Alexis Morrison at PRIDE 7, Michelle Taylor in a triple threat match also involving Reiha Johansson in a number one contender's match for the International Championship at PRIDE 8, Velvet Raven at PRIDE 9, and Mikaela Demidov at PRIDE 10. At Apotheosis, Mercedes defeated Bianca Salvador, who defeated Candace Okimura at PRIDE 10 in an impromptu match, to become the new International Champion and the first and only member of the current roster to have won a title in PRIDE's predecessor, All Female Pride Wrestling (AFPW) as the inaugural and last Tag Team Champions, and now in PRIDE Wrestling.
For the second consecutive year at War Games, the PRIDE Tag Team Championship did not change hands, while the PRIDE Championship did change hands. This is also the first time that the PRIDE Extreme Championship was not defended at the event.
