The UWL Coronation Cup is an annual tournament held in the Universal Wrestling League. The League never has a set date, in occurred in February in 2006, then in August for 2007. The first tournament was held in 2006, and featured 12 superstars broken into four brackets contending in a "round-robin" style tournament, with the winners from each bracket moving onto a mini-tournament. However, in 2007 the League was a normal single-elimination tournament. In 2008 the Coronation Cup returned to a league format.

History

The Coronation Cup was established to see who on the current roster most deserved to be elevated to the main event and awarded a future UWL World Championship opportunity. The 2006 tournament saw Teddy Davis come out the win over such UWL "legends" like Flying Diamond Cutter Man. Davis would go on to reign as the 2006 Coronation Cup Champion. 2007 saw a change in format, but the rewards remained the same. However the number of participants grew to 16 compared to the 12 in 2006; this tournament also included many men who have since made big names in the UWL. Rich Morrison went on to win the tournament and reign as the 2007 Coronation Cup Champion.

2006

The 2006 Coronation Cup featured 12 participants from the UWL. They were broken into four brackets of three superstars each, and then pitted against one-another in a round-robin style tournament. After, the winners from each bracket went on to compete in a mini-tournament to crown the Champion. The tournament was held from April 5th, 2006 until April 29th, 2006.

A quarter-finals soon followed, and finally semi-finals and then the Championship Match. The tournament was single-elimination. Despite the fact that the tournament was planned for 16 superstars, Jason Hunt appeared for two matches, effectively giving him 2 of the 16 slots. 2008

For 2008 the format of the League returned to that of an actual league, with brackets and a scoring system. The 2008 Cup was officially announced on July 8th along with the names of the 16 participants. As with 2006 the 16 were broken into four brackets, and the men in each bracket fought one another in a round-robin over three weeks with the winners from each bracket fighting on the fourth week in a miniature tournament. The 2008 Cup ran from July 30 to August 20 and traveled across four states.

2009

The Coronation Cup returned in UWL. After UWL returned from it's hiatus throughout Winter, Spring, and most of Summer, it was announced that the CC would be held throughout the month of October. It would run in a similar fashion to the 2006 and 2008 Leagues, and feature 12 men competing throughout four different blocks (with three men per block). As with previous years, winners would earn two points, losers none, and draws would give both participants one point.
